Woman, You Matter!
As women, we put up with so much. We strive to be all that we can be while struggling with who we are and who society expects us to be. We base our worth on how we look, on men's approval and even by comparing ourselves with the next woman. And then there are those mornings we wake up feeling ugly, too fat, too skinny, undesired and worthless. For some of us, it may even be every morning. You don’t know where the feelings come from but you just feel like you’re a nobody compared to society's standards. Nothing you do is ever good enough. You start questioning your purpose on this Earth. You start comparing yourself to others. You start measuring your success to theirs. You desperately start looking for attention everywhere from anyone. You start settling, you sell yourself short to the point of losing your identity.
As I was thinking about all of this today which happens to be International Women's Day, God dropped a couple of gems in my heart to share with you. Since I am Christian, I strongly believe in the Word of God because there is not ONE thing that the Bible doesn't address. And I pray, in the name of Jesus, that the Holy Spirit will seal them in your heart and mind today. First, you need to:
1- Know that the way you're feeling is just what it is. A ‘feeling’, not a fact. Feelings are futile and irrational, as powerful as they may be. They leave us no real stable ground to stand on. Feelings make us believe we are alone even when we are surrounded by a room full of people. Feelings make us see, think, smell, live what is not even real. What feelings tell us are hardly ever true.
One thing we need to know as children of the Most High God, we should not live by the way we feel. 2 Corinthians 10:5 tell us to “demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought (feeling or emotion) to make it obedient to Christ.” This means that you need to crush every assumption made about you and align your every thought to the truth of God. We have a choice to believe and fill our minds with God’s truth (which will change our hearts) or believe what other people say or think of us and be miserable. The word of God tells us to think about whatever is “true, noble, right, pure, and lovely” (Philippians 4:8). Therefore I encourage you to think about the truth that God tells you and believe it.
2- Know that you are valuable because God says so. You were “redeemed, not with perishable things such as silver and gold, but bought with the precious blood of Jesus” (1 Peter 1:18-19). Also in James 1:18, the Word of God tells us that “God decided to give us life through the true message (Jesus, the Word, the Good news) He sent to us. He wanted us to be the most important of all that he created.” I don’t know about you but the thought of God counting me as important and me being saved at such a high price through the blood of Jesus makes me feel pretty good about myself! That means I am not cheap or worthless. This proves that I am full of worth and that God values me enough to send His own Son to die for me. God also says that we are “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14); that we are “the apple of His eye” (Psalm 17:8); that we are “His treasured possession” (Deuteronomy 7:6), just to point out a few of those awesome verses that tells us how God sees us. Therefore ladies, we ARE a pretty big deal to God and we need to never forget that!
3-Recognize the ‘source’ of those dangerous thoughts. Now that you know who God says you are, you also know that whatever or whoever is making you believe otherwise is not God. If it’s not God, then who could it be? You guessed right! It’s Satan. He is the source of all those inferior thoughts that keep circulating in your mind night and day. He takes advantage of every situation to convince you that you are nothing and you should kill yourself. I could go on and on about those thoughts or people making you feel worthless. The word of God tells us that “the thief has come only to steal, kill and destroy.” (John 10:10). So Satan’s mission is to steal your joy by oppressing you with countless painful situations/conditions, kill your hope by invading your mind with lies and destroy you entirely. Knowing that, it should be enough to snap us out of that state of low self-esteem. Why would we believe a thief more than our own Father? In the same passage, Jesus promises to give abundant life to those who believe and trust in Him. Therefore, I encourage you again to believe in Him and trust what He says!
4-Start walking like you KNOW you MATTER! You don't need anyone telling that you are pretty, smart and loved. You simply ARE, because again God says you are! God placed inside of you the power to create and give birth. He gave you instincts that only you can understand. He gave you a heart that is so strong that no matter how many times it has been bruised and broken can still love again. He gave you arms to carry loads, comfort babies and even men. He gave you purpose that can build nations and shake this entire world!
So you see? You have absolutely NO reason to feel worthless. God loves and values you. You are filled with purpose, all for the glory of His name. So, keep your head up, keep your eyes fixated on Him and stay grounded in His word and truth. YOU MATTER!
